Thursday was just another routine walk off the practice field until Adrian Peterson’s eyebrows arched and his tone rose slightly. The topic of being an every-down back engaged him within seconds. “This has been a process that’s been going on for four years,†Peterson told the Pioneer Press. “It’s not just starting now to get on the field on third down. That’s something I’ve been doing for a long time. We had a great third-down back. Now that (Chester Taylor’s) not here, I’m picking up the slack.†The stakes of this Vikings season don’t have to be spelled out for Peterson, who seems eager to prove himself all over again despite becoming one of the NFL’s most prolific running backs over the past three years. This may be in his plans. But with the second round pick they spent on gerhart. I doubt manangement will allow him to be a every down back.
