Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said following practice on Monday that he hasn't made a decision on the whole Matt Leinart versus Derek Anderson thing, meaning it isn't going away anytime soon. While Leinart competes for a job, he certainly isn't keeping his thoughts to himself. Anderson most definitely is. The latest from Leinart came when he told reporters on Monday that he's outplayed Anderson. "I feel like I've outplayed the competition, training camp, preseason," Leinart said, according to the Arizona Republic. "I think my plays speaks about that. For me, this goes beyond the football field. The philosophy is you want the best 11 guys to play. I feel like I've proved that with my performance. I don't really know what else I could possibly do, so it probably goes beyond football. For me, I just really want an explanation and I haven't been given one." After saying he wanted an explanation, Leinart also acknowledged he hasn't asked Whisenhunt for one, per Kent Somers' report. Source: NFL.com
You're not good enough to suggest you outplayed anyone, you haven't won anything in this league and you won't be respected until you do. Preseason doesn't count.
Should he start? Yeah he should start, but has he been good enough to clearly be declared the starter? I don't think so. Both he and DA have had flashes of brilliance in their careers, but also extremely low valleys, Leinart had a rough time until last week generating first downs, the man reason Whis is considering Anderson is because of his big play ability. He's not afraid to throw downfield (hell, it's the only thing he can do), and with Fitzgerald and Breaston, coupled with them wanting to run the ball more, it could make for some interesting plays.
Yeah, just wait until Anderson starts tripping over his big moose feet and bumbling snaps and handoffs. He can keep up the image for awhile (maybe even a whole year) but he'll never be a legitimate starter. He's just too damn goofy and awkward.
