The 49ers released third-string quarterback Nate Davis on Monday after just one season, according to an NFL Network report. Davis never played as a fifth-round pick last season, but developed a following of fans who wanted to see him compete with Alex Smith for the starting job this past offseason. Niners coach Mike Singletary made clear that was not going to happen during training camp. He came down hard on Davis after the second exhibition game, questioning his work ethic in the offseason and declaring him not ready to compete for so much as the backup job with David Carr. Davis completed 23 of 44 passes for 301 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in four exhibition games. Source: San Francisco Chronicle
Nate was a pothead at Ball State from what I've heard, too bad he couldn't get his work ethic in order for a NFL job.
I can't understand why people were so high on him. The niner boards are all pissed off over some guy who never showed very much.
well that pass to Ted Ginn was nice. (the 60 yard bomb) But you're right other than a strong arm he didn't show much. I do think he has shown enough to latch on elsewhere though.
what the heck:icon_eek: Nate Davis > Troy Smith. you got be freaking kidding me. Nate Davis looked pretty good considering Crabtree, Vernon Davis and Frank Gore didn't play this pre-season. You gotta give this dude a shot. One more year and I think he would have started:icon_sad:
Nate Davis is a lazy goober. He has the arm, but everything else is severely lacking. Troy Smith is a big upgrade behind Alex Smith (Well, at least for now).
He is not a goober. He isnt lazy he tryed hard to get that guy who picked him. Ted Ginn made Nate look bad. I like Sam Mike but IMO THIS IS A BIG FREAKING MISTAKE.
his arm . all the preseason games i watched i liked what he brought. he can move the chains. with all the 3 and out last year. i would bank that nate davis would have increased conversions by at least 20%. he wouldd no worse than alex smith his first year
Either way maybe with a new team Davis will get it. Although the 49ers do have Jarrett Brown on their p.s. who I really like. :icon_cool:
