New England Patriots receiver Randy Moss, speaking for the first time since camp began, expressed frustration because the team has not offered him a new contract. Moss, 33, entering the final year of a three-year deal, is scheduled to earn $6.4 million this season and said he thinks he deserves a new pact based on his production the past two seasons. "When you have done so much and put so much work in, it kind of feels like I am not wanted," Moss said in an exclusive interview with CBSSports.com. "I am taking that in stride and playing my final year out and whatever the future holds is what it holds, but it is kind of a bad feeling -- feeling not wanted. It is not like my production has gone down. I am speaking from an individual standpoint. I don't know about Tom [Brady's] or whoever else's contract. "I am a little older and understand the nature of the business -- the older you get the more your skills supposedly diminish, but I think I am getting wiser in how to use my physical skills. That's the frustrating part when you put so much heart and desire into things and feel like you are not wanted." Last season, Moss caught 83 passes for 1,246 yards and 13 touchdowns. In 2009, he had 69 receptions for 1,008 yards and and 11 scores. Those seasons came on the heels of a 2007 campaign when he registered 98 catches for 1,493 yards and 23 TDs. Like Brady, also 33, Moss is entering the final year of his deal and the Patriots would have to spend a lot to keep both players. Source: CBS Sports
Cry about it all you want, just put up huge numbers so it's really hard on them to not give you a new contract and so my fantasy team wins me some money : D
The Pats really try to stay away from paying too many high end contracts, with the goal of having more good players vs cap loaded superstars. It's been a philosophy that has worked well in the past. I get a kick out of people saying Kraft is cheap, yet he spends the same amount of money on players in the cap as everyone else. Also, he makes none of the decisions on who stays and who goes. Belichick runs this team, totally. Obviously Brady will be signed, and that's why he isn't concerned. Logan found that a guard isn't worth 8 million plus to the Pats. If Moss wants to stay, he needs to get together with the Pats, and see what they are willing to pay. If that isn't in the ballpark, then he's gone like Seymour. This has nothing to do with loyalty, only winning in the future. Now, this was the old plan, but with the new rules on cap. I'm not sure how this all breaks down. I'm still trying to figure that one out.
It's not like Tom is joining the welfare line, no matter what he gets paid. Only player in the NFL that has a wife making 3 times what they do. It use to be all about winning for him. If he could keep Moss by taking less, that isn't out of the equation. His ego isn't fed by Dollars.
he was wanted in oakland and he pulled his bullcrap now shut the heck up and play for the business minded pats who dont give a crap for their players who are nearing the end of their primes.
While I generally don't like players whining about contracts too early, I will say that Moss put it out there much better & eloquently than most of the cry babies. Kinda refreshing... He'll find a home for good money no matter what if he stays healthy & doesn't hold his breath waiting on the Pat's to make a move.
