Despite being 0-2 in a season where the Dallas Cowboys have aspirations to play in a Super Bowl that will take place in their stadium, head coach Wade Phillips' job is safe, owner and general manager Jerry Jones told a Dallas-area radio station. "I thank you for asking the three questions where I can just give you a very affirmative no," Jones told 105.3 The Fan this morning, via Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News, when asked if Phillips' job was in jeopardy. "I do believe in Wade and the staff and the players," Jones added. "The thing about it is when you have that kind of commitment one of the No. 1 things you have it for is those situations. Those people are supposed to really be there in hard times. Hard times. That's when you've got to make your best grade if you're deserving of that commitment and we're in hard times. That's why I'm in the saddle with Wade and in the saddle with the staff and the team." Archer accurately notes that Jones hasn't made a mid-season coaching change, and that the looming lockout in 2011 may keep that streak intact. But the more the "L's" pile up, and the more Phillips' reactions on the sidelines resemble the kid from the Ally Bank commercial after his red truck gets taken away, the hotter Phillips' seat will get. Now that Jerry has put a coaching change to rest, he is hard headed enough to let this plane go down in flames. Jerry brings me no joy... Forget a coaching change. We need a GM change.
its always a good thing when your boss gives you confidence. but you need confidence in your self and if they lose this week which is possible playing Houston Wade's confidence may go wayy down startin 0-3. when they had exceptions of makin it to the Superbowl this year 0-3 will really sting
Totally agree. However, that won't happen as long as Jerruh is in charge. He's too much of a control freak. For a new GM to come in, Jerruh will have to die first.
ah as a GM he hasn't done half bad he has brought in some player that have been good others have been a miss and he has drafted well since BP left. he has resigned the players needed signing. the fact that the DC are sloppy and mistake riddled is not JJ fault its solely on the coaching staff. my dad always told me perfect practice make perfect play......... practice sloppy and you'll play sloppy.
Brings me a small bit of joy to see another talented team go down in flames because of bad ownership decisions bad oline play and bad coaching
Sure when it comes to signing players and finding draft steals, Jerry has done very well. But Jerry will not leave the team alone. He wont just do his GM job, he wants to put his hands in the coaching basket and that is where we come up short IMO.
Where the heck did the "handshake deal" go? If the Cowboys lose to the Texans...Phillips loses that vote of confidence or Jones loses his mind...check that...Jones part happened a while ago.
Update at 4:50pm EST Thurs. – Rumour – Cowboys on the verge of firing Wade Phillips|Pro Sports Blogging " All things point to Jerry Jones replacing Wade Phillips after the game in Houston on Sunday. " Jimmy Johnson had to say. "I've been talking to Troy [Aikman] about this," Johnson said by phone, "and when I see the penalties, the assignment mistakes and just the undisciplined nature of the Cowboys, it's hard not to yell. That stuff goes back to the coaching, whether it was once me, or someone else imo, Jimmy Johnson will be the Coach on Monday!
This is all coming from 105.3 the FAN here in Dallas. And let me tell you.. They are about as reliable as the Onion. Billick = Maybe Johnson = NOT GONNA HAPPEN Cowher = Going to the Panthers If anything Wade will be fired or demoted and Red Jesus(Jason Garrat) will be the interim till Jerry finds a new HC. I will be beyond shocked if Jerry hires a new HC during the season.
