NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said there was a negotiating session between the owners and players' union Tuesday and reiterated that he hopes a deal gets done sooner rather than later while discussing multiple NFL-related issues in a radio interview Wednesday. "I've often said that this gets more difficult the longer it goes," Goodell said on SIRIUS NFL radio's "Madden Football." "So our opportunity is sooner rather than later and we need to work intensively to get the right kind of agreement to make sure that we address the issues that our game is facing. "The game is changing and we need to change with it, our labor agreement needs to change with it, and I think at the end of the day we will get an agreement, it's just a question of when. And I think that agreement is going to end up being good for the players, for the clubs and for the game. My hope is to do that sooner rather than later." Goodell was also asked about Colts president Bill Polian's decision to back off a comment he made earlier in the week where he suggested an 18-game season was a done deal. Some players have expressed resistance to expanding the regular-season from 16 to 18 games. "I spoke to Bill, he called me yesterday to clarify his comments," Goodell said. "And I'll let Bill speak for himself because he's good at it, because Bill's been working with us on what we need to do if we do go to an enhanced season, what we would need to do to make sure we continue to keep the game strong. "I don't think it's a done deal at all until we have found the right way to keep the game strong and to allow us to continue to grow the game. I think there's a lot of merit to the study, the analysis and the idea of it but until we can figure out exactly how to do it I don't think anything's a done deal." Source: Pro Football Weekly
