Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Clay Matthews is the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for September. Matthews tallied 15 tackles, six sacks and a forced fumble in three games this month. His sacks came in back-to-back three-sack performances in the Packers first two games of the season. Matthews leads the league in sacks and won the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award after the Packers victory over Buffalo. "I know it sounds cliché to say I've got something to prove, but especially coming out (of college) they said 'Oh, he can rush the passer but can he play against the run?'" Matthews said today. "So I take a lot of pride in overall how I approach the game. I think it's a great start, and it is a long season. I think I've been playing at a high level, but I need to continue that the rest of the year and whether that's getting sacks or stopping the run, I'm here to do that." Cornerback Charles Woodson won the NFC Defensive Player of the Month three times on his way to winning the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award last season. Source: Total Packers.com
You know dude is impressive when you just focus on him to see what kind of awesome he will do next. Although that pointless face mask on Cutler sucked after such an awesome hustle play last week.
I don't care what the media say, the Matthews family is the greatest in the NFL. And to think there's another Matthews entering the league next year.
You can never go wrong drafting a Matthews.... You get hard work...consistency.....and longevity. Congrats Clay......what a beast. eace:
