On a weekly basis, your friendly Captain will provide you with a power ranking based on a mathematical formula that I have been using for several years. There are no preconceptions or assumptions in this formula. It does not know that the Browns are perennial doormats and the Colts typically win 12 games every year. It simply looks at the results of each game and gives us a number for the results to that point in the season. Here are the considerations/factors that go into the formula:

     Wins
     Losses
     Strength of Opponent
     Home Field Advantage
     Margin of Victory
     Yards gained
     Yards allowed

Some of you will like these statistic-based rankings. Some of you will despise them and curse me a premature death. That's why I'm here. Because the data sampling is small early in the season, there are sometimes wild swings in a team's ranking from week to week, especially with a huge upset or a quality win

    Week 3 Highlights:

The Cowboys and Chargers are the highest ranked 1-win teams. The Rams and Jaguars are the lowest 1-win teams.

The Falcons and Packers are the highest ranked 2-win teams. The Cardinals and Seahawks are the lowest 2-win teams.

The Texans were the week's biggest loser in the formula, dropping 14 spots.

The Eagles and Cowboys were the week's big winners, both jumping 13 spots.

    #1 Steelers (3-0) 53.12 -- I don't think anyone can argue with the formula's #1 team
#2 Packers (2-1) 42.29 -- Although they were sloppy last night, the formula still likes this team
    #3 Falcons (2-1) 30.60 -- They are for realz
#4 Colts (2-1) 26.04 -- Still at the top of the league
    #5 Jets (2-1) 25.93 -- Looking like a SB-caliber squad
#6 Bears (3-0) 25.08 -- Getting some breaks this year
    #7 Chiefs (3-0) 24.33 -- See the Bears
    #8 Bengals (2-1) 21.88 -- Defense is back to 2009 form
#9 Cowboys (1-2) 21.48 -- Consistency will determine how far this team goes
#10 Chargers (1-2) 18.01 -- Finding ways to lose early in the season as usual
#11 Eagles (2-1) 15.73 -- My SB pick is looking good
#12 Titans (2-1) 15.39 -- Weird game on Sunday but came away with the W
#13 Ravens (2-1) 9.86 -- Defense is struggling right now
#14 Dolphins (2-1) 7.18 -- Didn't have the talent to beat the Jets
#15 Buccaneers (2-1) 3.36 -- Got smacked back down to earth on Sunday
#16 Saints (2-1) 3.19 -- Seem very uninterested this season
#17 Raiders (1-2) 1.25 -- Playing much better since the week 1 debacle
    #18 Giants (1-2) -0.79 -- Talented but a mess right now
#19 Patriots (2-1) -1.48 -- Defense needs to mesh and quickly
    #20 Vikings (1-2) -2.50 -- Will they get rolling?
    #21 Texans (2-1) -2.73 -- Mulligan?
#22 Broncos (1-2) -2.96 -- Great passing game but nothing else
#23 Seahawks (2-1) -8.43 -- Lots of smoke and mirrors right now
    #24 Browns (0-3) -9.80 -- Playing competitively at least
#25 Redskins (1-2) -20.00 -- Who thought their defense would be the problem?
#26 Cardinals (2-1) -23.42 -- Not sure what this team is yet
#27 Rams (1-2) -24.56 -- A lot of young talent developing right before our eyes
    #28 49ers (0-3) -25.93 -- Was the OC really the only problem?
    #29 Jaguars (1-2) -38.76 -- The Jags may lose 15 straight
#30 Lions (0-3) -41.83 -- I want Stafford back to see what this team can do
    #31 Bills (0-3) -46.22 -- Can't believe they're not in last place
    #32 Panthers (0-3) -52.89 -- Trainwreck

Falcons are playing very well right now, they are clicking on both sides of the ball.

Perfect time for the letdown vs San Fran.

Haven't watched all your games this year, but it was very surprising to me how well we outplayed you last week.

I hope that it's because our O line has improved incredibly, but I doubt it.

Defensively we seemed to have confused the hell out of you guys, but the team is still too young to say that definitively.

I think you guys are better than you showed against us.
