To say coach Tom Cable is a glass-half-full kind of guy is stating the obvious. Raiders owner Al Davis isn't talking, so for now Cable is the only guy doing the pouring. So, yes, please fill it to the brim with optimism after a 1-2 start. Oakland lost a crusher last week, 24-23 at Arizona when Sebastian Janikowski missed a 32-yard field goal as time expired. But Cable, coaching as if there is no next season, has continued to preach the positive. "We've done got over the hump," he said. "We're no longer soft or not tough or can't come from behind. ... Hell, we spotted them a touchdown and answered it right away and kept on playing. "I like the mentality of our team a ton." Source: San Francisco Chronicle
They really should be 2-1 and w/ SD seemingly relinquishing their stranglehold on that division they really do have a lot of cause for optimism - provided you frame this season against the past decade or so obviously.
1-2 is not bad considering that there are only 3 undefeated teams left in the league, and that they'll have their chance to face one of them in a few weeks. Raiders still control their own destiny
obviously it's still early so they could get it together. however, my main concern with this team would be with their defense. they were supposed to be a dominant group and against 3 mediocre offenses have not looked dominant. that defense needs to dominate for this team to do anything.
