In a week in which his offensive coordinator was fired, San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Singletary's job is safe for now, according to team and league sources. But just because he is safe for now does not mean he is safe beyond this year. Even if the 49ers were to snap their losing streak, turn around their season and win their division, people familiar with the situation said there are no assurances that Singletary would return even though he has two years remaining on his contract after this season. The 49ers believe that the NFC West is wide open, nobody will run away with the division, and Singletary still represents this team's best chance to have a winning season. What also helps Singletary's staying power is that the 49ers do not have a logical head-coaching successor on staff that they would be confident to promote to interim head coach.

In other words we are "for now" keeping the motivator(although personally, I'm sick of his yapping) and aren't looking for an actual X and O's head coach....oh great, I miss Eddie D even more these days...

serious question.......do you think Singletary lost this team?

michael lewis cleaned out his locker, left the team unannounced and left a message through his agent saying: "They Say Mike Singletary is a player's coach. Good luck with that."

also....do you think glen coffee's retirement had any thing to do with coach?

Some teams tune out their head coaches because the players are tired of hearing the same old thing from their head coaches. I wonder if this hasn't happened here?

I think the operative words here are "for now." After Atlanta today, who knows?

i think throwing raye under the bus bought him some more time........ at least a few more weeks.

  6. Lewis left the team because he wants to be a starter. (doubtful)

Coffee's retirement had NOTHING to do with Singletary. He had Saban as his coach it's not like he had an easy coach in college.

their offense looked a little better this week but it will take time to implement a new scheme if that's what they're doing.

they would just have to toss manusky or someone in there to get through the season and then hire someone after the season.
