Mike Singletary Never Considered Pulling 49ers QB Alex Smith

Discussion in 'San Francisco 49ers' started by BigBlueBruiser, Oct 4, 2010.

  1. Head Coach Mike Singletary claims that he never thought about pulling Alex Smith from the 49ers' eventual loss on Sunday against the Falcons, according to the Sacramento Bee. Alex Smith's job is safe for now, but the 49ers are 0-4, and a few more losses could mean a switch to fellow former No. 1 overall pick David Carr. If Smith doesn't turn things around soon, he may never get another chance at a starting job.

Nothing good will come from benching Smith. He's 'the guy' in San Francisco and there is nothing better waiting in the wings to take his place. All benching him would do would mess with his psyche.

At some point, you have to try SOMETHING. If this thing is still a sinking ship by mid-season, put in Troy or Carr and see what you got. Hell, activate Nate Davis for a game and let him play.

  7. I think it's time for Singletary to find his own franchise quarterback in the draft next year. The 49ers would most likely have a top 5 pick next year. Jake Locker would be perfect for that team imho.

If we are high enough to be drafting Locker then it won't be Sing's new franchise QB.
