San Francisco 49ers second-round safety Taylor Mays has been named the team's starting strong safety. Mays, the 49th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, started his first NFL game in place of Michael Lewis, who has asked the team for his release. The 6-3, 230-pound Mays had a game-high 11 tackles and recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown in the 49ers' 16-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Prior to Sunday, the former USC standout had a pair of special teams tackles on his NFL resume.

I really think a lot of teams are gonna kick themselves for passing on this kid. He is gonna be something special.

Ya mays played VERY well. Seemed like a lot of 49er fans were really pissed when we drafted him where we did. Looks like a good decision so far.

Yeah I was initially pretty confused when Heckert chose TJ Ward with Mays still on the board, but both are playing pretty well so far.
