Bengals Assistant Mike Zimmer Calls Bobby Petrino A Coward

  1. Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is still upset with Bobby Petrino for bailing on him and the Falcons with three games left in the 2007 season. Prior to the Bengals' Week Seven matchup in Atlanta, Zimmer shared his thoughts with the media on Wednesday regarding the current head coach at the University of Arkansas and the former Falcons head coach. "He is a coward," said Zimmer, who was serving as the Falcons' defensive coordinator when Petrino quit the team to return to the college game. "Put that in quotes. He ruined a bunch of people's lives, a bunch of people's families, kids, because he didn't have enough nuts to stay there and finish the job. That's the truth." Petrino resigned after a "Monday Night Football" loss to the Saints dropped the Falcons' record to 3-10. He then was announced as the Razorbacks' head coach just a day later. Zimmer said he has never seen anything like that. "Most people in football have enough courage about them and enough fight to stick through something and not quit halfway through the year. It's cowardly. "He came in and said he resigned, he would talk to us at a later date, walked out of the office and no one has ever talked to him since. Not that anybody would want to. He's a gutless (bleep)." Zimmer added that he doesn't like to consider himself part of what went down. "I was never even there," he said. "As far as I am concerned. I never even was there."
