San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith spent Monday morning at a hospital in London, but he is still waiting to hear if a left shoulder injury will keep him from playing against the Denver Broncos on Sunday at Wembley Stadium. The 49ers (1-6) flew to London from Charlotte, where they blew a late lead and lost to the Carolina Panthers 23-20. Smith was injured on a third-quarter sack and still had his arm in a sling Monday afternoon. After arriving at the team's hotel from the hospital, Smith said "it's all right. Could be better." San Francisco coach Mike Singletary said he had no idea if Smith will be ready to face Denver in the NFL's fourth regular-season game in the British capital. "As of right now, we have to get the X-rays and see what the doctors are thinking at that time and get a feel for it," Singletary said. "I'm not a doctor, so we'll have to wait and see." I can honestly say this is the first time I hope David Carr isn't on the field for the Niners. I guess that I can say that this will be the first time I'm attending a bowl game...the Crap Bowl.
