At least Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels didn't get the dreaded vote of confidence from owner Pat Bowlen. Bowlen has remained silent since the Broncos' 59-14 loss to the Oakland Raiders. Broncos players, though, did stick up for their coach. "I'm not sugarcoating this.I'm going to be as honest as I can be and tell it to you straight. It's not Josh," Broncos linebacker Mario Haggan told the Denver Post. "I've never been more prepared as a player from a head coach. And I've been through five or six already. "We knew when the screen play was coming. We just didn't stop it. We knew when it was run-toss and they were going to try to hit the edge. We just didn't stop it. It's not him. People may not understand that, but I'm telling you that's the way it is." Players insist that McDaniels still has a strong grip on his team. "That's ridiculous," defensive ttackle Justin Bannan said. "Josh hasn't lost this team. Nobody quit. When it's 21-0 and there's only five minutes gone on the clock? You're like, 'Oh, boy.' It's not even an uphill battle at that point. It's a fight for survival." McDaniels isn't deaf to the criticism he's received. "You understand they want you to win, and when you don't win, they're going to take out their frustrations," McDaniels said. "And it's usually the coach. That's the occupation that I chose. It's part of the deal. You don't run from it. You take responsibility for it." Source: National Football Post
I didn't think he was ready for a head coach job, but everyone thinks a Belichick coach is a sure bet to a winning program. As we've seen with all the coaches that left, that wasn't true. However, someday Josh will be a good head coach, but maybe not in Denver. There isn't much time given to a coach to get his act together.
Bill Belichick didn't do too well in Cleveland, but he did great in New England. I always thought that McDaniels wasn't ready to be a head coach. I could see him as an OC somewhere and then getting another opportunity to be a head coach elsewhere after getting more experience under his belt.
