The Kansas City Chiefs and starting ILB Derrick Johnson have agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension worth just over $34 million with $15 million guaranteed, FOXSports.com has learned. Johnson, who would have become an unrestricted free-agent next year, was playing on a one-year restricted free-agent tender worth $2.475 million, which he signed in March. Johnson, 27, entered the NFL as a first-round selection (15th overall) of the Chiefs in the 2005 NFL Draft. The University of Texas product played in 50 games (40 starts) for the Longhorns, earning the Butkus Award and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as a senior in 2004. Source: FOX Sports
Now comes the true test of the coaching staff. Can they keep DJ from going back to his lazy self now that he got paid and job security(in a sense)?
I'm happy with this deal....he's been great this season and the contract term will put him at 32. Perfect time to walk away.
well im happy that he has been good...but he hasnt been gr8. atleast here he gets a chance 2 be gr8 and at the right price i think. i was afraid they would give him something in the 40-45 million range.
