Eagles Unlikely To Let QB Michael Vick Leave As Free Agent

Each successive stunning performance has made it a virtual certainty the Philadelphia Eagles won't let Mike Vick walk as an unrestricted free agent in 2011. Sources close to Vick anticipate the quarterback will be bound to the Eagles for at least 2011, most likely by a franchise tag designation. There have been no contract discussions between the sides, according to source and no offers have been floated by either side but the Eagles' devotion to Vick has been apparent, as has their willingness to put the development of prized back-up Kevin Kolb on hold, and Vick would be shocked if he hits the open market. League sources both at the NFL and NFL Players Association level believe there will be some sort of franchise player distinction in a new collective bargaining agreement, whenever one is completed, and that the tag for a quarterback will be roughly $20 million in 2011. After restoring both Vick's career, and reputation, and creating a climate conducive to the former Pro Bowl selection playing at a level unlike what many have ever seen from that position, rival executives I've spoken to said there is absolutely no way the Eagles let him walk.

    SoDev Don't tase me, bro!

Crazy to think anyone who needed him could have had him for like a 3rd/2nd round pick when he was shopped last off-season. Although Philly seems to be the perfect fit. Not sure things would be going so well if say the Redskins took him.

The Eagles would be stupid to let Vick "fly" away to another nest.....

Either sign and trade or trade Kolb in the off-season.

Still got almost half a season of football. A lot can happen. But if he keeps this up, my man Kolb is gone.

What does Kolb's contract look like? He signed something last off-season didn't he? Assuming there's a cap next season, can they afford both qbs?

If I remember correctly, Kolb is cheap next year. 1-2 million, finishing out his rookie contract. I think we gave him the 10 mil extra money beginning of this year.

Vick will be an Eagle next year. He's so successful because of this system and the weapons he has around him. Who needs a QB right now where Vick could go. Buffalo? Oakland? Minny might work since it's not TOO far off but I don't see the Eagles just letting him walk. He's young enough to get a few years out of and wait for some college stud. I'm good with Kafka as the back up for a few years. Trade Kolb NOW!!!

Unless a 1st rounder comes along, gotta keep Kolb. Vick is too prone to hits.

kolb doesnt haven anywhere near that value....if a team is giving up a 1st its for vick, which would be amazing to say the least on how much has happened since the falcons traded up for him

If he keeps this up, Philly needs to keep him. Period. Kolb still has SOME trade value, and there are a few teams that may pull the trigger on him (Arizona and Minnesota come to mind). Vick is playing out of his mind right now, and this is the perfect team for him. He has the right weapons, this is the staff that has entrusted him to turn his personality around (which he has), what he did last night was nothing short of AMAZING. He claims that he feels he could play till late 30s (we'll see), that would buy the Eagles at least 5 years with him to win a championship. With this nucleus, they could easily win one soon, hell, last night, they look like the clear-cut best team in the NFC, and the most explosive in the league.

I don't care if he does or he doesn't. I'm saying that I wouldn't want the Eagles to part with the guy for anything less. Quality backups are freaking gold, and while he obviously doesn't bring the same game to the table, he has shown he can be very effective.

But simply to argue... you don't think Kolb has latter 1st round value? Tim Tebow value? JP Losman value? Weak draft class for QBs, beyond Luck every one of them is a huge gamble. You get a 26 year old close to in his prime years who has something to prove and has been sitting in the bench learning the game. Very little time wasted waiting for him to develop.
