Texans QB Matt Leinart Could Eventually Be The Backup?

  1. The Texans got a scare when QB Matt Schaub was hospitalized with an injured bursa sac in his right knee leading up to the Week 11 game vs. the Jets, but Schaub recovered in time to practice on a limited basis Thursday and fully on Friday and was expected to play against New York. Schaub said the condition would not require surgery but noted that it's a condition he has been enduring. "It's been something that I have been battling during the duration of the season since early on," he said Nov. 18. "It just got a little worse, but it's fine." Schaub's top backup is Dan Orlovsky, with ex-Cardinals QB Matt Leinart the Texans' third-string passer for the time being. However, the way Pro Football Weekly hears it, Leinart, should he re-sign with Houston in the offseason, likely would have the edge to become the No. 2 quarterback next season. PFW is told it's clear the Texans are high on Leinart.
