Andy Reid has seen his starting quarterback take a beating, and he hinted Friday that some of them may cross the line, but have not drawn a penalty flag. "It bothers me," Reid said when a reporter asked about some of the big hits Vick has absorbed when he runs. "I see the same thing you're seeing. He does run, but he's still the quarterback and there has to be, you can't treat him like he's a running back there. That's not what the rules state." Vick took another big heaping of abuse Thursday night from the Texans and got up slowly at times. He spent part of his time on the sideline riding an exercise bike in an apparent effort to stay loose. "I'm used to taking hits. It's not that bad. They may look harder than what they seem," Vick said. "If I take one and I lay down, then I took a good one." Reid declined to get into details when asked if he would address the hits on Vick with the NFL. Source: The Daily News
When he runs across the line of scrimmage is he not like a RB? As for the hits he takes behind the line of scrimage....that's a different story. It was clear they were calling the game differently for the two QBs on the field when they called Trent Cole for that "low hit" on Schaub. Luckily there are 10 days for Vick and the rest of the team to recover. I just wish the penultimate athlete that Vick supposedly is would learn how to simply slide.
Vick has been getting popped quite a bit, and normally I wouldn't have a problem with the non-calls. It is football, after all. But every other quarterback seems to be getting them so it is rather irritating from that perspective.
If Vick is running or scrambling and unless he's in the process of throwing, he can be hit as hard as the defender wants. He's not defenseless there. But if he's throwing, totally different story. It's hard to agree with what Reid is saying without seeing the specific hits he's speaking on.
Reid kind of screwed up with the wording, but the question was specifically about "late" hits. I don't have a problem with him fishing for future calls to help the team.
^^^^ so true, I was saying that while the game was going on, if you call it for one QB then damn it call it for the rest of em.
Vick basically said he's scared crapless to slide because he doesn't want to blow his knees out DJ Shockley style
If it runs like a RB, you lay the wood to it. It's the reason pocket passers have a longer live expectancy.
