Quarterback Matt Cassel, a key reason the Kansas City Chiefs have emerged as contenders and lead the AFC West late in the season, underwent an appendectomy on Wednesday. How long the Chiefs might be without Cassel, the AFC offensive player of the month, was uncertain. They said the procedure was a success and they expected Cassel to “return to work this week.†They did not say whether he would be ready to play on Sunday when the Chiefs (8-4) travel to San Diego for a showdown with the Chargers, who trail Kansas City by two games in the division. It was a laprascopic surgery so I think there is a couple of holes but it's not as invasive as actually cutting him open. There's no chance he plays on Sunday but a fair chance he could be back against the Rams. Should definitely be back by the Titans game barring any complications. Horrible timing but I have to admit I'm intrigued by what Brodie Croyle is going to look like with a decent offensive line (something he's never had).
I had my appendix removed laprascopicly while playing college ball, and missed two practices... Wed & Thurs.. then started the Saturday game. Now it was painful at times... Just depends we all handle pain differently.
I really hope Matt can play on Sunday, but I really doubt if he can...I had an appendectomy...they HURT. I never had any faith in Croyle, and still don't....except if he plays, he'll most likely wind up on IR Monday morning...
If it's all about pain tolerance, then I'd go ahead and have Croyle start and after he breaks his leg after tripping over the turf, then put Cassel on a load of pain killers and get him in there.
Surprised me that the new procedure cuts recovery time that drastically. No way he plays this game, but a good chance he only misses 1 game.
