Rookie quarterback Colt McCoy was named the Browns starter during Coach Eric Mangini's Thursday morning press conference at the team's Berea headquarters. McCoy was either been inactive or the Browns' third quarterback for the team's since suffering an injury in a 24-20 loss at the Jacksonville Jaguars on November 21. He missed the Browns' 24-23 win over the Carolina Panthers (November 28) and 13-10 victory at the Miami Dolphins (December 5). "I felt like he earned this opportunity and I want to give it to him," said Browns coach Eric Mangini. "If I didn't think he could go out, lead us and be successful, I wouldn't have named him the starter. "The plan is for him to start this Sunday and the rest of the season," he added. "He did a really good job when he played." When he did start, McCoy led the Browns to a 2-3 record, with the wins coming at New Orleans (October 24) and against the New England Patriots at Cleveland Browns Stadium on November 7. McCoy completed 81-of-127 attempts for 975 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in those five starts. Source: ClevelandBrowns.com
THANK GOD. Holmgren definitely wants to see him play in cold weather to be able to evaluate him in the offseason. Thee fact that he's played the best aside, there's no reason in the world not to make him the starter.
McCoy has alot of guts and has played well. idk about qb for the furture but atleast he gets a shot at it.
kid's a winner...might not be everything else fitting the "model" qb but....he's a winner and that makes up for a lot of things. Really tires me to see so many people say a qb has to have this kind of arm strength or this height and weight etc....Joe Montana didn't fit those molds...Bradshaw didn't...(combined super bowl wins of those two??) Unitas was big and awkward looking.... Dan Marino was the prototype qb and how many championships did the man win? Great qb but no rings. Give me a guy with guts and a winning attitude and see how good your team can be.
Really like this guy. I was glad I got it right with thinking he would be a good player. He is a great player and I could see him being the franchise qb.
I thought they would wait a week so his starts would be Pit (10-3), NO (10-3), NE (11-2), NYJ (9-4), Jax (8-5), Bal (9-4), and Pit (10-3), 0.736 win percentage combined. Even with Cincy its still a .676 win percentage (ie 10.8 wins per team across a 16 game season) It could still work out to be 7 playoff teams in 8 starts if the Jags hang on to that division. That's a crazy first half of a football season.
