Redskins Intentionally Tanking To Increase Their Draft Position?

  1. Pro Football Talk is floating the idea that the Redskins have benched quarterback Donovan McNabb to increase their chances of losing their final three games this season to enhance their draft position next spring. Where they would presumably draft a quarterback. At "just" 5-8, however, they have almost no chance of tanking effectively enough to be in position to land Andrew Luck next spring. With Rex Grossman under center they will certainly lose, just too little too late. Yes, the Redskins aren't even good enough at losing.

  2. For what it's worth.....Michael Lombardi on NFL Network reported that Redskins insiders told him the exact same thing. Starting Grossman will help their chances.....they will certainly not get Luck, but if they finish 5-11.....they could have their choosing of Jake Locker or Cameron Newton.

  3. I wouldn't touch Ryan Mallet with a ten-foot poll.

QB's at least 6-7 or taller always turn out to be busts in the NFL (Dan McGwire).

They aren't tanking intentionally but they have obviously decided that Donovan isn't their future. Thus, you play your backups to see where you are with them (and if you lose games and get a better draft position...Great). But you have to know whether you have anything worth keeping at QB (and I think the answer is probably no). Thus, expect a QB by Washington in the first round (only question is which one).

I think it's amusing how some see this move as an effort to 'tank'. It's just way for some to come up with yet another reason why McNabb's benching couldn't possibly really be due to his own poor play and preparation.

Was it not McNabb behind center during the recent thrashings by the Giants and Eagles? You could not tell me that Rex Grossman would have made the point difference any wider.

It is a myth that McNabb gives this team a better chance to win at this point in the season.

I think it's amusing how you haven't posted a word about your own team all week but your broken record posts about 5 show up every chance you get.

  7. well.. it remains to be seen if he really is that tall but I'd pick Locker and Luck over him and maybe even Newton.

  8. :icon_rolleyes: youre flaming of mcnabb is getting boring.

yes I could. Grossman is awful. The Skins have no good above average skill position players save Chris Cooley who they don't use.

no it isn't a myth. It's a fact. Just wait for next week.
