Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton said this week that although he is signed through 2011 with the Broncos, if he were to return to the team next season, it would be with the understanding he was again the starter. With Tebow's contract almost fully guaranteed — all but $567,500 of the $9.713 million deal is guaranteed — through 2014, it's not likely Orton would receive that kind of assurance from the new coaching staff, unless the new coach simply didn't believe Tebow could be a long-term starter in the league. There also is the fact that the Broncos have just six picks in the 2011 draft and exponentially more needs than that to fill. That's not nearly enough and shows just how bare the cupboard is at the moment and Orton would be one of a thin roster's most valuable assets in a trade. He could secure the Broncos some much-needed picks in the draft, and that is the most likely scenario at the moment. Source: Denver Post
Now that would be a big gamble on Tebow if they get rid of Orton, but someone will gladly take Orton off their hands. There are a lot of teams needing a good QB, and willing to give up some draft picks.
yep, it's becoming obvious that orton may be on his way out even though he did his job. they may be able to get a desparate team to overpay for him
Until his last couple of games, when the whole team collapsed, he actually was having a very good year.
Wow, Orton was the only bright spot this year for the Broncos and they might already be sending him out for Tebow. Should be lots of teams out there wanting to scoop up Orton.
Orton was very solid early in the year but slowed down the last few weeks. They should still be able to get some decent picks for him, and he's far from the reason that they've only won a few games.
As much as I like TT I have to say this would be a big mistake. Then again if the Donkeys want to go with TT next year Orton isn't going to stay around anyway.
I think it's a little premature to say the Broncos will possibly trade Orton. It's basically going to come down to the new head coach and whether he feels that Orton will fit his system.
