NFL sources said Friday night that the sides are involved in serious discussions that could result in interim head coach Leslie Frazier being named the team's permanent coach at some point after Sunday's regular-season finale in Detroit. It's believed Frazier could receive a contract in the neighborhood of three years. Vikings owner Zygi Wilf has declined interview requests in recent weeks to discuss the coaching situation. Frazier, 51, took over on an interim basis on Nov. 22, a day after Brad Childress was fired following a 31-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Since then, Frazier has done his best to keep the focus on his team and away from his future employment, but the latter subject has become unavoidable as the season winds down.

I can't think of anyone who is more deserving than Leslie Frazier.

I like Frazier, I'm just hoping he brings in some of his own staff. I like the new defensive coordinator, but I'm not quite sold on Bevel, hard to judge him when he was handcuffed by Chilly since he's been here.

Maybe he can go after Josh McDaniels for OC.

I think McDaniels needs a superior who will keep his bubbling ego down. I don't know a great deal about Frazier, but the last thing that he'll need is some jackass failed HC causing trouble.

i'm unsure how i feel about the frazier and garrett situations ............. unless i'm forgetting someone, i can't think of very many coaches who have been promoted after their h.c. was fired and had much success ...... teams that are in bad enough shape to fire their head coach need someone 'new' to come in and give them some new faces, ideas, and direction. just promoting someone who was 'part of the problem' doesn't really give the team a new start ................

if someone thinks i'm off-base on this, let me know, but the only internal 'coordinator promotions' i can think of that have had much success were promotions from successful head coaches and most of the successful coordinator hires to h.c. are coming from a diferent organization .............

Captain, I wouldn't say that the Vikings are in that bad of shape if a QB is found. And the Cowboys just had major motivation issues. Childress' firing really had nothing to do with the roster he built, but his boneheaded gameplans and decision making, rarely being able to admit his faults, while sometimes throwing players under the bus, cutting Randy Moss without consulting anyone else in the organization(There was supposed to be some system of checks and balances in place after he cut the leading receiver on Christmas eve of 2007), and the players just not respecting him and saying they couldn't trust him. The Vikings have already had a bit of a fresh look on defense anyway. But like I said earlier, I don't want Frazier to just keep all the coordinators because he's there, there is room for new ideas.

Hiring an internal coordinator wouldn't make sense for teams that are a real mess inside and out, like the 2007 Dolphins or 2008 Lions.

no internally promoted coordinator has won a SB since the modern age of free agency began so i don't think it just applies to bad teams.

teams need new starts, new faces, and fresh ideas. i just question if 'more of the same' is a good thing for a team because recent history shows it doesn't win SB's.

I'm sure for every internally promoted head coach that has failed to make it to/win the Superbowl there have been more new faces who have failed to get there as well. Most coaches just never make it there. Its a crap-shoot.
