I'll wait for the official announcement Saturday but, I'm sure he's going to enter. Schefter just trying to be the scooper. It's all opinion at this point.

In other news Schefter also tweeted the sun will rise tomorrow.

Cam Newton Going Pro, Skipping Senior Season At Auburn

Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton will skip his senior season and enter the NFL draft after leading Auburn to a national championship and drawing nearly as much attention for a pay-for-play scandal as for his dynamic performances. Auburn released a statement Thursday night announcing the quarterback's decision following his lone year as a major college starter. Newton led the Tigers to their first national title since 1957 and a 14-0 season with a 22-19 victory over Oregon on Monday night. "This decision was difficult for me and my family," Newton said, adding that he made it after talking to coach Gene Chizik and offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn.

I'm sort of disappointed, though I knew it was happening. I just wanted revenge on him.

  9. Look....I mentioned not too long ago that Newton could be one of the QB's in play for the 49ers at No. 7 overall.

But that doesn't mean I think that Newton would be a smart choice at No. 7 Harbaugh most certainly wouldn't reach that high on a QB prospect that is nowhere near ready to start. Plus, he wouldn't fit in the West Coast Offense.

Tebow was a reach pick too at the time he was drafted last year. No one expected him to be a first-round pick.

I bet it was a real tough.
Stay at Auburn and have to wonder when the NCAA is going to come back with more questions for me or say adios and start soaking in the $$$ and watch Auburn, ("always call home."....yeah, right.), get shafted after the crap my old man did.

I f the draft was held today I dont think that would be the case. He kind of got exposed in the BCS game, I think he'd be a mid round pick at best at this point, which is probably about right. HOWEVER he's obviously the kind of guy that once postseason workouts start, he's going to skyrocket up draft boards just on his measurables and whatnot. His size/running ability/arm combo is going to have scouts absolutley drooling and I wouldnt be suprised if he ends up being a serious candidate for the #1 overall pick. It happens every year.

Teams need to find out what happened to his back first guys. Remember his presser was cut short and he was taken to the hospital right after the game was over.

I'm sure he'll go fairly high in the draft, but I don't think he will be very successful in the NFL another Vince Young/ Matt Leinhart if you ask me!!

vince young has had a successful career, hes just insane.

newton is huge, fast, has a big arm and nice touch and accuracy. he'll be drawing young, roethlisberger, russell, and freeman comparisons

Vince Young has had a successful career?:icon_eek: Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan were drafted two years later than him and look at what they've done! They are successful!! Hell, Aaron Rodgers was drafted one year before him and look at what he's done! I don't think you can say Young has been successful at all!!

I don't think Vince Young can be called a success at all. I also am not sold on Newton. I have to agree with Red on this one. I am not sure he'll make it in the NFL. I was surprised by his and Auburn's ability to pull out wins this year but one thing I noticed was the immaturity of Newton. The way he'd pout and have little baby fits when something bad happened or his team got behind ( I know they came back to win so don't bother arguing it) and that kind of stuff won't fly in the NFL. His emotional leadership reminded me more of Terrell Owens than Tom Brady. May have worked for college but he won't be in college any more.
Some team will spend a lot of money on him and he'll be an emotional roller coaster for a few years with flashes of brilliance and bouts of ugliness.

vince young was rookie of the year and has been a winning QB since day one....hes just a big time mental case and lost his mond a few times.

newton is better than young imo, hes got the downfield accuracy and pocket ability that young never had. hes really alot like roethsberger only faster, not quite as polished but similar skillsets. no one knows if he can be successful in the NFL....but theres major questions around locker, mallet, and gabbert too

Couldn't disagree with you more about Young. 32-24 record 42 td 42 int 36 fumbles and a QB rating of 75.7. That along with all his other problems doesn't equal success in my book. Hell even Alex Smith almost has that QB rating!!:icon_cheesygrin: Again, all athletes that play in the NFL are talented and athletic, but that isn't enough to be a success in the NFL, and I'm thinking Newton will be a fine example of that!! There is questions that surround every rookie coming out of college, but Mallet, Locker, and Gabbert are in offenses that set them up for success in the NFL. The spread offense has no place in the NFL. If you wanna win a superbowl you better be a pocket passer first and a runner second.

dude im not saying that young is the epitome of a success story and an athletic hero, his career fell apart and hes likely to start out 2011 as a backup, but it wasnt because his skill set. he won games and was on his way to a promising career before he fell apart and became a headcase. newton is a similar athlete but also is a much better passer than young was and has a much smoother release. i think hes got some serious potential, i get why people dont like a QB in his mold because theres question marks about how it translates to the pros and i certainly wouldnt spend a top 15-20 pick on him but i like him more than i ever liked young or russell. I thought it was criminal for russell to go #1 over calvin and brady quinn, turns out quinn sucks too....and i thought cutler and leinart were both better than russell and in a way i was right but leinart sucks too.

someon will take a chance on this guy he is too talented not too, and as far as the other QB prospects go...locker is looking like he isnt a first round pick right now he has alot of work to do at the senior bowl and combine. mallet has terrible footwork, a few character concerns, makes bad decisisons and right now looks like a rich mans derek anderson. gabbert is the definition of a spread QB and outside of a select few, they just typically dont translate well to the pros right away. with luck staying it really spiced up the QB situations
