While Jason Garrett has final say on his coaching staff, there is still one area he can't rubber stamp: draft picks. Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has the final say on who the team selects with the No. 9 pick of the draft and the rest of the selections, but that doesn't mean Jones doesn't use information from his coaches and personnel people regarding who to take. "The way I like to say it is that I'm not the sole decision maker," Garrett said from the Senior Bowl on Tuesday. "A lot of people seem interested in that. We'll make the decisions collectively as an organization." During the draft process, Jones receives plenty of information from various sources and on draft day he listens to his staff. It was Wade Phillips who wanted Anthony Spencer and Jones agreed with the decision to pick him with the 26th pick of the 2007 draft. At last year's draft, Garrett pushed for the Cowboys to move up in the draft and get wide receiver Dez Bryant. "We have a lot of input," Garrett said of the coaching staff. "We have a good process with the Cowboys. We have a very accomplished scouting department and they do a great job of evaluating these players. The coaches are involved in this. I was involved as an assistant coach and will continue to involve our assistant coaches. And as a head coach, certainly I'm very much involved in the whole process." Source: ESPN Dallas
Of course he won't. It's Jerry Jones decision in the end only time it wasn't is probably with Bill Parcells, because he likes to pick the groceries.
In two years we will be reading the following headlines: "Cowboys Owner Fires Garrett; Names Himself Head Coach."
And won two Super Bowls....go figure. lol Third if you include Super Bowl XXX.....even though Barry Switzer was coaching the team.....most of them were Jimmy's players.
