ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter shot down a wild rumor that Jon Gruden would be taking over as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. Schefter says that he was told by three people regarding the reports, "ridiculous", "impossible", "no." The rumor came from a source with no history of breaking news or being plugged into the Philadelphia sports scene at all. The source told Philly2Philly.com that Gruden would be named the teams new head coach on Tuesday. Andy Reid has three years left on his contract and has gone to the playoffs in each of the last three seasons. Although vilified by the local fan base, the front office has shown unwavering support and Reid isn't going anywhere right now. Source: Adam Schefter: Twitter.com
Jon Gruden already indicated that he is staying with ESPN and I don't see Andy Reid going anywhere anytime soon.
This^^^^ Also, Andy Reid is a good coach. Why in the hell would the Eagles trade Reid for Gruden? That would put the franchise back 5 years. lol
I've been a Reid backer since he came on board. But the five most recent winners of the Super Bowl have taken over their team within the last five years and led them to Super Bowl wins. McCarthy, Payton, Tomlin, Coughlin, Dungy... they have sealed the deal. This team is not 'on the cusp', if you will. We aren't knocking on the door. A championship is still likely a couple years off at least and the defense is in bad shape. If there was a good time to look elsewhere, it'd be right now. And heck Gruden, if it's gonna happen I'd much prefer it be Jeff Fisher.
Reid's obviously on his way out the door, but I doubt the Gruden would be a good replacement. Fewell is a good name to throw around.
reid is done after next season if he isnt eating bigmac's on a float going down main st in disney world next february.
