In an op-ed column that ran in newspapers throughout the country, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell called for more serious negotiations towards a new collective bargaining agreement. "The hard work to secure the next NFL season must now accelerate in earnest," Goodell wrote. "We are just weeks from the expiration of our collective bargaining agreement. There has been enough rhetoric, litigation and other efforts beyond the negotiating table. It is time for serious negotiations." It should be noted that Goodell speaks for the side of the negotiating table that staged an orchestrated walk-out of last week's CBA talks before Goodell himself canceled an owner's meeting that was originally scheduled for today. "We need an agreement that both sides can live with and obtain what they need, not simply what they want," writes Goodell before launching into what the owners want in the next agreement, including a "Rookie Wage Scale" (which already exists in the form a rookie pool) and a departure from the 4/16 preseason/regular season format, which an overwhelming number of players and fans reject.

Tell the owners to show up with their books open and go from there...it's all the players want to start off. The players are willing to give 10% back without looking at the books...lol.

Roger and the owners are setting the players and union up for "failure to negotiate in good faith".

The time for serious negotiations has passed. It's lighthearted banter or nothing from here on out.
