Running back Frank Gore's fractured right hip has completely healed, he told Comcast SportsNet. But the 49ers' medical staff is taking no chances. He has been told that he can begin running on Feb. 28. (He sustained the injury Nov. 29 in a Monday night game against the Arizona Cardinals). Meanwhile, Harbaugh said he would like to get Anthony Dixon onto the field a little more in 2011. Harbaugh added, "But it won't be the type of thing where we have Frank Gore come off the field too much because he's one of the best backs in the league, in my opinion." Good news that Frank is well on the mend, he is quality. But letting Dixon take some of the load off him won't be a bad thing IMO.
Dixon is a beast. That could be a potent 1-2 punch. What is slowing Dixon down from getting more playing time? Was it just Singletary being dumb?
Until Gore got hurt I think Westbrook had something like 2 carries all year. Watching 49er games early in the season I was baffled why Westbrook and Dixon literally never saw playing time. Yeah Gore's good, but you've got one of the best all around backs in recent history and a rookie that I really liked as a sleeper going into the draft behind him, there's absolutely no good reason why you would want to run a guy with an injury history like Gore into the ground like that. The 49ers were just a mess last year. It's too bad Campbell had to go out and give the worst performance I've ever seen against them. If we had Russ back there we probably would have beat them. :icon_twisted:
