University of Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert will not throw at the NFL Scouting Combine this week in Indianapolis, Gabbert agent Tom Condon confirmed Tuesday. "Gabbert will run. He's just not going to throw," Condon said. "We haven't had any of our guys throw (at the Combine)." Condon and the St. Louis-based CAA Football agency have represented a long line of top-flight quarterbacks over the years, including last year's No. 1 overall pick (by the Rams) - Sam Bradford. The circumstances were different for Bradford because even if he wanted to throw at the Combine he couldn't because he was finishing up his rehab from shoulder surgery. Gabbert, who is considered a likely top 10 pick, will throw at Mizzou's March 17 pro day in Columbia. Gabbert will still have plenty to do at the Combine, including the exhaustive medical exams that all prospects undergo, as well as the nightly interview sessions with interested teams. He had decent numbers this past year. But, I'll wait for you draftniks to tell us if this is a good idea or not.
what does he have to gain by throwing? its a pretty smart move for him because he will be able to throw in a comfortable place to his own receivers thus giving him a better chance at a great workout. What does he have to gain throwing at the combine NOT MUCH OF ANYTHING. Most of the top ranked Qbs don't throw at the combine.
agreed on the above. I really think most teams would be better off waiting until round 2 for a QB. Gabbert doesn't really impress me on the little I have seen of him and some people have concerns over his leadership ability and his ability to consistently stay healthy. Newton's intangibles blow.
great point. and it's not like say Texas or Oklahoma's spread it really is not like a pro offense at all.
Agreed agreed agreed. You're looking at a serious adjustment period, and there's nothing else about Gabbert that makes me think he's going to have a better career than the "later-round" guys anyway.
It explains the numbers. Tape doesn't lie, and I just do NOT see anything on tape that makes me thing he would even be serviceable in the NFL. Don't get it, maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see it.
When he had a decent receiver in 09 he had a very nice year. He does play in a deep shotgun but this kid has an insanely quick release hes accurate and coming out of high school he was the top rated pro style Qb. When you watch him play his play screams West coast offense. People are not sold on him because all year all you heard was luck mallet locker ponder never Gabbert then people watched film and evaluated him and realized hey this kids really good............so now people who have watched basically nothing on him think hes overrated because he came out of nowhere for the top QB spot.
