The NFL says it will use a new sideline test to determine concussions next season. The NFL says in a release Wednesday that more details of the evaluation will be announced on Friday in Indianapolis, where the annual scouting combine is being held this week. But the NFL says the new sideline test will include a checklist of symptoms, a limited neurologic evaluation and a balance assessment. It will employ many components of the evaluation process developed during a Concussion in Sport meeting at Zurich in 2008. The test was developed by the NFL’s Head, Neck, and Spine Committee, with input from the NFL team physicians and athletic trainers and their professional associations. Source: Associated Press
American Sports are generally well behind the curve when it comes to protecting their players, whether it being injuries or drugs. The rest of the world has been doing this for nearly 20 years, and with greater caution (IRB stops Rugby players from playing for three weeks after suffering a concussion).
This is going to heck up the game and needlesly remove too many players from play. Where's the outrage? This is WAY worse for "injuries" in the league then changing 2 preseason games to regular season.
Of course not. American Sport has no conscience to it's competitors (At least those in power), I mean heck NASCAR up until a couple of years ago was more than happy to throw guys into their early graves.
