ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that a pregnant wife of an NFL player had labor induced last week so the NFL team of the player she is married to footed the bill before the family would have to do it via COBRA. As a result of a potential lockout, players will not lose only their salary but medical insurance and other benefits will not be provided to the players because they are included in the CBA. What a freaking crock of bullcrap. These players have known about the insurance and crap ending for what a couple of years and they are inducing labor so they can get everything paid??? Must be wonderful not to be living in the real world where people don't have the luxury of a 2 year notice that their job is ending...heckers!!!
"I DON'T CARE IF BABY IS 3 MONTHS EARLY, YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE NOW. THE FREAKING INSURANCE GOES OUT THIS WEEK."
And if something bad would have happened it would have been the NFL's fault, right Fantsyland dwellers? Can't lower yourself to do what Mainstream Joe has to deal with every day of the week? Here's to hoping your kid turns into a professional Curling fanatic.
alot of assumptions being thrown around here. No one said how early the baby was. Could have only been a week and then it wouldn't have mattered. insurance is important and it's something most of us have. If you don't have insurance then either you don't have a job or you're an illegal or your job sucks. Either way sorry. If you don't you're gonna be paying some insane money. i don't see how you can blame the players for knowing that they would lose their jobs 2 years early... Doesn't really seem to have anything to do with the article.
Don't the players get reimbursed through the new CBA for all their medical expenses once a deal is completed? I'm pretty sure I read and heard that...
Ummm, yeah...the players knew they were going to possibly lose their jobs and hence their paychecks a couple of years earlier...why wouldn't you plan ahead and take care of this crap or even NOT get pregnant 8 or 9 months ago when you knew that you possibly wouldn't have insurance or a job when your baby was due..I think it has a lot to do with the article IMO...
So when they found out they were pregnant and the estimated due date was after march 3rd they should have just aborted the pregnancy?
accidents happen? Either way worst case is they have to pay out of pocket and depending what player it was it would be a major pain in the butt but not a huge loss.
I read/heard that medical expenses were like salary.....no restitution. So now I don't know. Do the players really qualify for COBRA @ 12:01am on the 3rd. If so, for how long is the COBRA benefit good.
I heard the same, but I think they can negotiate reimbursement into the next CBA. COBRA Insurance Information Help :: How long does my COBRA coverage last?
Still, the league and players are preparing for what might happen if a new deal is not reached. Owners will have to decide whether to lock out players and the union will have to weigh whether to decertify. And on Wednesday, players received a reminder of how much their lives could change with a lockout: They received letters about paying for their health insurance once coverage stops with the expiration of the current deal, using the Cobra program to extend benefits. The league pays for players’ health insurance and life insurance when a labor deal is in place. Depending on their years of service, some veterans will be eligible to have their health-care expenses and Cobra payments reimbursed. The union conducted a conference call Thursday focused on explaining health insurance options. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/18/sports/football/18nfl.html
