Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder threw passes under the watchful eye of NFL scouts Wednesday to one of the league's best receivers ever -- Issac Bruce. The retired NFL veteran was called into action in part because of the NFL labor strife. No current NFL players are allowed to workout in front of league executives and the Seminoles had no senior receivers on their roster last season. Ponder didn't know until Wednesday that he would be throwing on his pro day to Bruce, who has Hall of Fame numbers with 1,024 catches good for 15,208 yards and 91 touchdowns. "It was crazy," said Ponder, whose mom, dad and brother watched the workout. "I never thought I'd be throwing to Isaac Bruce at some point in my life." With Bruce running routes along with a handful of Florida State running backs, Ponder threw short passes, sideline passes, intermediate passes and also the deep ball. Source: ESPN
He would have to slip into the early second for Tennessee to snatch him unless they move back into the late first. My second mock will have a little shake up to it. Have to figure out where to place him if I truly believe Ponder carries a first round grade. But I would take Ponder, Jake Locker over Ryan Mallett. He'll fall like Jimmy Clausen did last year. Both were talented QB's that came from a Pro style offense but have real concerns of character and having a sense of self-entitlement. By listening to Mallett in interviews......he sounds like a wigger. lol
Especially if there is a good chance for a lockout a team would do well to grab Ponder quick. Kid has "it".
This guy has consistently been the best passer throughout the whole off season, and appears to be the safest QB in the whole draft. I'm surprised that he's not making it into the late first round of mocks, because I could imagine someone holding a 2nd Rounder trading up to snag him.
