The Crowe's Nest: Breaking News: Edge retires from the WWE [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqTGFJOCYUk"]YouTube - WWE Superstar Edge retires 4/11/2011[/ame]
And probably why it was the opening contest..... A real shame Edge had to retire while he was still World Champion but his health should be his top priority.
True. A real damn shame that he hasn't been able to leave on his own terms, but with E&C reuniting and the last match being a championship win at Wrestlemania, it couldn't have been better in a bad situation. Now Smackdown is in a bit of a hole suddenly, with their number one face being taken away and very short on star power. Do they put the strap on Christian (At last?) or do they bring over one of Raw's Face ME/Upper Midcarders (Morrison, Orton?). In the space of a year, WWE have lost Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, Edge, Batista, Matt Hardy & MVP...ouch.
Who would they sign from TNA? I think Mr. Anderson/Kennedy would've been a great thing for smackdown - but, I'm sure he's happy where he is in TNA right now, being one of the top guys and locking into a feud with Sting. Convince Angle to come back? Take a chance on Jeff Hardy not being pilled out of his mind to ME Smackdown? I think Christian more than deserves the chance. And, he's got the crowd support and even more so now with Edge having to retire. It would be the best move. I was just about to start watching Smackdown again, but I don't know that I will now. Depends on how/what they do now.
this is real, not an angle. i 1st thought christian or del rio would interupt, but that never happened. with that said. he had a great career, and he will be in the H0Fsoon
Taking guys from TNA is not going to happen. Of the guys mentioned: Anderson left on bad terms after it was rumoured that Orton got him fired due to dropping him on his shoulder I believe, and WWE covered it up as him being injury prone (a phantom wrist injury). Plus he's getting more success at TNA now than he probably ever would have in the E. Angle again left the WWE on bad terms, but they wouldn't touch him anyway, he's got a crapload of personal and substance problems, and his body is beginning to break down. I could imagine them taking back Jeff Hardy if he was to get clean because he is probably the second most over babyface in fed wrestling, as well as generates a lot of merch sales. Again, due to the OMEGA buddies being at TNA and his unlikeness of getting clean, I wouldn't bank on it. The only guys who would be nice to see in WWE is Samoa Joe & AJ Styles, but they wouldn't know how to book them and probably grind them into the ground. Plus the WWE marks don't know who they are. Therefore, the logical steps are to push those who are over within, who are Ziggler, Morrison. Sheamus should get pushed back into ME also.
Wasn't sure. I don't follow it as closely (actually , at all) as you guys do. Just seems like they have no "anchors" like they have in the past... Not even sure who is in TNA.
Well this is the problem they have now. Their only mainstay main eventers left are Cena & Orton. Undertaker and Triple H are very part time, Sheamus & Swagger seemed that they had broke into the fold but both have suffered pretty heavy demotions (Sheamus, especially undeserving as he had a good second WWE Championship reign), Barrett didn't get a title but should have, but himself been relegated to what has been portrayed as a group of jobbers, Miz is still new to the scene and Kane/Big Show/Rey Mysterio seem to drift up and down the card. The problem is as shown in the past, WWE is unwilling to push new stars unless they are forced to do (Eg. Hogan, Savage, Warrior leaving in the early/mid nineties, Scott Hall/Kevin Nash/Bret Hart jumping to WCW in late 90's along with HBK's retirement and Rock/Austin when they were departing for Hollywood). This is shown with the ridiculous amount of yo-yo pushes in the last year that have gotten them nowhere. They seem scared that putting young guys over established stars will damage what they've already got, which is absurd.
They're thinking on the terms "why fix what isn't broken". The fans are still coming out. They banking on their couple of main stars to get them places. What do they do when/if Cena leaves for Hollywood like The Rock? He's already made a few movies. I'd like to see AJ or Samoa Joe in WWE, but you're right. It probably wouldn't work, because they kill gimmicks in the WWE so much. After DX broke up and Road Dogg was fired, they basically destroyed Billy Gunn. R-Truth got a huge push last night, but how long does that last? Until he loses at Extreme Rules? If he wins that title..I'd be totally shocked. Morrison would be fine, if he could work on his mic skills. That was Jeff Hardy's biggest weak spot (aside from pills). Of course, WWE has to give them the chance. Eventually, they're going to have to give younger guys a chance, because the more veteran superstars aren't going to be there forever. Undertaker will be retiring soon. Triple H seems to be down that path. Hell, they lost Edge already. To be honest, they could kill the Divas division and be fine, IMO.
