San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle filed a “multi-million dollar lawsuit†Tuesday against Bayer AG, Bayer USA, and Athlon Sports. The suit stems from the unauthorized use of Weddle’s image on boxes of Alka-Seltzer, according to NBC’s Pro Football Talk. According to the lawsuit, Bayer’s Alka-Seltzer antacid boxes had an image of Weddle from his days at the University of Utah that appeared nationally at Wal-Mart’s, Walgreens, CVS’s, supermarkets, and local pharmacies. Additionally, Athlon Sports used the image on their college football preview magazine. Both were done without identifying Weddle in the picture. “The image was photoshopped to take out all logos and intentionally darkened to make his shield cover his face but it was a photo readily used in all promo material and every time [Utah] discussed Eric,†Weddle’s agent David Canter said. “They also didn’t get permission from Utah. A staffer pulled it off the Internet.â€
