The Minnesota Vikings are still in the market for a veteran quarterback and Donovan McNabb remains a high probability, according to league sources. Minnesota's selection of Christian Ponder with the No. 12 pick in the NFL draft caught many around the league by surprise. However, it will not alter the club's plan to sign a veteran starting-caliber quarterback, with McNabb long their top priority in that regard. Whether through trade or through his release, McNabb is expected to eventually become a Viking. Ponder will need time to develop and Minnesota, with a veteran roster that came close to the Super Bowl in 2009, wants an experienced quarterback to steward the team and also help break in the youngster. Oh Lordy. The last thing you want to do is bring Donovan McNabb in to a situation where he will be competing with a rookie QB, let alone one taken in the top 12 of the draft to be 'the guy'. And not only that, but Joe Webb on the bench waiting for his chance? Sheit.
The lockout has just been reinstated. So there's a chance that the Vikings may still be in the market for McNabb. If this thing goes long, it's going to be virtually impossible for Ponder to run an NFL Offense.
I still think this is a good move for the Vikings. For a year or two while they develop the younger talent. I think its going to happen too especially if the lockout keeps up.
