Andy Reid Says The Eagles Will Be Aggressive In Free-Agency

The Philadelphia Eagles came out of the NFL Draft with three needs, which happen to be from the defensive side of the ball. The right cornerback position is clearly the biggest need then probably outside linebacker and defensive end to a lesser degree. Eagles head coach Andy Reid acknowledged the team will be aggressive once free agency starts. “We've got an aggressive plan together, whenever they say go, we'll be ready to go and attack what we feel we need to improve,â€￾ Reid said during an interview on Comcast Sportsnet Tuesday. How aggressive Reid will be will probably depend on the rules for free agency. If last year’s rules are in effect, players with three to five years of accrued experience would be restricted free agents while any players with six years or more would be unrestricted free agents.

Better be. Ignore corner like that, better have some contract offers printed up and ready to go.

Dallas is gonna be a serious contender, too. Ryan's defense, Jerrah's pocketbook...

I could totally see the Eagles signing Nnamdi. Makes sense and their history shows they aren't afraid. However, that's a crap-ton of money tied up in the back end of the defense. You guys think they would dump that much coin into two corners?

Do the Eagles still have Asante Samuel signed to that enormous contract? If so then that is a crap ton of money poured into 2 players playing the same position.

Samuel's on the books for about $6M (plus incentives) in 2011.

I could see it. If you build what you feel is a strong team everywhere else relatively affordably then why not.

    In short, yes.

As you said, we're on the hook for about $6 mil for Asante this year. Back when he signed his contract that was a lot, but realistically that isn't bad for a corner of his caliber.

2013 is where Asante will either be cut or rework his contract.

He's been well worth the ~$9 mil a year. A big FA signing that actually earns his paycheck.

yeah i think its a no brainer the eagles go after a corner in free agency (like mike said, whenever that is), i think they go after nnamdi hard. if they dont get him they go after whoever the next best is on the market.

Ike Taylor wouldn't be bad across from Samuel.

Yea Samuel is a good player. I just remember everyone making a big deal about his contract when he signed it. I wish the Pats would have paid to keep him. The secondary hasn't been the same since he left.
