Donations, contributions and other efforts have poured in after San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow was beaten in a Dodger Stadium parking lot on Opening Day.But one quiet gesture has especially touched Stow's family, something that will affect his two children years down the line.Former Giants star and embattled figure Barry Bonds has volunteered to pay for the college education of 12-year-old Tyler and 8-year-old Tabitha."It was extraordinary of Barry Bonds, I thought," Stow family attorney Thomas Girardi told NBC Bay Area KNTV. "He didn't say anything about it to the press. This was just a gift he gave the family because he knew that it was going to be pretty important to the kids." Source: ESPN.com
while i still see this as a bit of a PR move i don't care. you can't really debate the how great it is considering who is being helped here. bravo !
I don't care if its a PR move or not. It's awesome. 1 day I can actually like Bonds. Back to normal tomorrow though.
i thought the exact oppostie is said about him by just about anyone that has ever dealt with him ? still, this act on it's own, is freaking awesome.
Well I know that the exact opposite is said about him by the media. But I hate the media too so I could care less what they think. The Giants however have always stood up and defended him, haven't they? I could be mistaken. I just recall the players pushing him to make the all star game that one year just before he never played again.
well this isn't the thread to really keep going with this but the giants before last year basically had nothing to promote but bonds. he was it pretty much since the days of his dad and mays. regardless though, as much i as i can't stand the guy and as much as i think he should be banned along with all the other roid cheaters this move deserves to be admired.
Super class move by Bonds. There is a reason he's still loved by Giants fans despite all the steroid crap, and that's because he has always been a stand-up guy with the local fans and community. He's obviously had a very contentious relationship with the national media which gave him his bad rep, but you won't find many locals who have anything bad to say about him as a person. He's got a local charity that does a lot of work with the UCSF Childrens Hospital and kids sports programs (as well as donating $10,000 to Stows family for medical bills ON TOP of paying for the kids college)...and that's just what I know about off the top of my head. Basically Bonds has always been a rod to people who are a rod to him (mostly media and opposing fans), and yes he is a cheater, but he's not some kind of horrible selfish garbage monster.
This is awesome. This one of those moments where nothing else matters in terms of what he's done or how he's acted in the media.
Awesome move by Barry. Love him. hate him. Whatever. This is super classy, and one of the best things any professional athlete can do for anyone. Way to step up to the plate on this one, barry.
