Peter King of Sports Illustrated writes that he thought all along that Kerry Collins would be back for a training-wheel season for Jake Locker in Tennessee ... until King heard what veteran guard Jake Scott of the Titans had to say. "I'm not sure Kerry isn't going to say, 'I'm done,' and ride off into the sunset,'' Scott told Ross Tucker and King on the radio last week. "I don't think he wants to come back and be a nursemaid to a young kid. Money's not an issue to him.'' The Titans will certainly need a vet, and a better one than a Rusty Smith-type, in 2011, and maybe beyond. Source: Sports Illustrated
Considering Collins didn't want to do the same for Eli back in 2004.....Scott's comments hold some significant water.
He'll be retired within the next 3 years. Him and Panthers K John Kasay are the last 2 original Panthers. Both'll retire within the next 5 years. Collins has been in the NFL since '95, and I think Kasay's been in since '91. They're both rather old for the league, and deserve to retire and enjoy life outside of football.
Kerry Collins Stats - Tennessee Titans - ESPN Oh, trust me... he won't be missing out on a whole lot. What's this guy gonna help teach Jake? How to throw mid 50s accuracy for his whole career? How to keep almost a 1:1 TD/INT ratio through 15 years? How to never be that elite quarterback that Jake will never stop striving to be? Crap, throw Jake in right now without any fellow QB coaching and he could post that.
