Pro Football Hall of Famer Gale Sayers says NFL players should be shamed if they don’t help the pioneers of the game who played for peanuts. Sayers spoke Friday night at an event hosted by the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund. The former Chicago Bears running back was honored along with retired stars such as Hall of Famer twinky LeBeau and 1997 Super Bowl MVP Desmond Howard. NFL players asked a federal appeals court earlier in the day to declare the lockout illegal almost three months after it started. Retired players are pushing for better pension and health benefits from the league and players in the next collective bargaining agreement.

Retired players should definitely be helped as much as possible. And the current players have to remember that this CBA will probably be the one in effect when most of them retire. So they better do as much as they can for the vets.

I've heard quite a few current players say that their biggest focus is making sure the retired players and health benefits are better. Could just be the politics of it but hey it sounds good.
