Vikings WR Percy Harvin Plans To Work With Christian Ponder "In The Near Future"

  1. A week after missing a microcamp with his new quarterback because he allegedly lost his cell phone, Vikings wide receiver Percy harvin was in Sioux Falls, S.D, on Thursday for a charity banquet and told KELO-TV he may be seeing Christian Ponder soon. "We texted each other a few times," Harvin said. "We hope to get together in the near future. So, we'll see what happens with this lockout. But I think if (a resolution) doesn't happen here pretty soon, I think we will get together." The Vikings selected Ponder with the 12th overall pick in April's draft, and coach Leslie Frazier put the rookie quarterback in touch with Harvin the next day, during the 11-hour window the NFL lockout was lifted. Ponder told reporters he hoped to use Harvin as a liaison to reach out to his new teammates and organize practices during the work stoppage, but only seven players joined Ponder last week in Bradenton, Fla., with Sidney Rice, Bernard Berrian, Visanthe Shiancoe and Harvin the most prominent names on the invite list that didn't show for a variety of half-baked reasons. Asked what he thought of the Vikings selecting Ponder, Harvin told the TV station, "I'm confident in our staff. I'm always a believer in our front office. They called me and said they seen something in Ponder for what they were trying to establish in our system, and they went with him, so we'll see what happens." Harvin's absence wasn't entirely a surprise, even though he went to college at the University of Florida -- Ponder went to Florida State -- and does most of his offseason training in the state. He missed more than 40 practices last season because of a variety of issues and didn't come to the Vikings' organized team activity practices last spring either but this year, the lockout has training camp in doubt and Harvin said he's hopeful the season won't be lost. "It's out of my hands," Harvin said. "The only thing I can do is control what I can control and that's keeping my body in tip-top shape, so whenever this thing works out, I'll be ready to play football."
