Former Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor To Officially Enter NFL's Supplemental Draft

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Jun 14, 2011.

  1. Terrelle Pryor, who left Ohio State last week amid controversy, held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to briefly talk about the past, as well as his plans for the future. He didn't take questions from the media. The partial transcript is below (via ESPN2): "I apologize for putting [coach Jim Tressel] in a situation, and for taking [Tressel] out of a job and a place that [he] loved to be. I regret the fact that [he isn't] there anymore, I regret the fact that I'm not there anymore. In terms of Ohio State, I have nine more credits left at The Ohio State University and I'd like to come back and graduate sometime … and finish my degree and graduate as a Buckeye. In terms of my future, I'm entering the supplemental draft and I'm working hard every single day on the field and off the field to be a better quarterback. Also one of my goals is to be the best person I can possibly be off the field and to be the best role model I could possibly be off the field. Thank you all for coming again, and God bless you all." Pryor's new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, then spoke about his client: "Terrific. Thank you, Terrelle. Guys, I'd like to talk a little big about this outstanding young man's future in the National Football League. I've been an agent for 25 years now and I am very excited to be working with him. I have met with Terrelle at length and I am very impressed with him. He is a young man here today expressing tremendous remorse. He is very sad about what has happened to his college career and Ohio State. I can tell you that he is extremely, uh … he is responsible for the mistakes he has made. He's owned up to them. There are no excuses here. No excuses at all. But the past is now the past and we have to move ahead. There is no point in him looking back except for him to become the best person he can be. And I believe in him. The reason that I signed him as a player, despite all of the prognostications and whatnot, is that I'm a firm believer after 25 years of experience that Terrelle Pryor will be a great -- not a good quarterback -- a great quarterback in the National Football League. That he's going to be a star. That this experience that he has gone through will galvanize him and make him a better person, a stronger person. There is no doubt in my mind that he has a great work ethic. He has incredible talent. I can tell you that when I was talking to him about representing him, I spoke with Jim Tressel. And I was very moved by what Jim Tressel had to say to me. I don't know that I've ever heard a coach speak more fondly of a player than Jim Tressel spoke about Terrelle. He talked about him in the same way you'd talk about a son. They talk everyday, four or five times a day. There's no way I'd be representing him … without Jim Tressel's involvement. We're going to work very closely together, he's going to champion this young man. I was very touched by what he had to say about Terrelle's character, his work ethic, his drive and his makeup. I'm very confident that this drive, this character, this makeup -- along with his incredible physical ability -- he's one of the most gifted quarterbacks that the NFL has seen. For anybody who questions where he's going to be drafted, I expect him to be a first-round pick in the supplemental draft. This league needs quarterbacks. Are you kidding me? Middle round for this guy? You talk about Cam Newton being the first pick of the draft and he deserves it? Let me tell you what, I'll make all the comparisons all day long: [Pryor] is 31-4 at Ohio State. He has 8,000 total yards in three years. He holds 59 touchdowns -- a record at Ohio State. This is Big 10 football that he has dominated. He is going to be a great NFL quarterback. With all the teams that need QBs, you can't tell me that people are not going to jump on this young man. And let me tell you what: everyday I'm going to put him in a position where he's going to meet with teams. He's not going to make any excuses. He's going to tell the teams that he made some mistakes out of maturity, but he has a good heart. I've represented a lot of players in the NFL. This young man has got character." Rosenhaus may have high hopes for his client, but the reality right now is that Pryor doesn't appear to be an NFL quarterback. ESPN's Chris Mortensen, having talked to five general managers around the league, said "The early reviews (about Pryor) are not that positive or glowing as Drew would say. I heard somebody speculate on a supplemental draft pick -- and it is far different than the usual draft -- [that Pryor is] a fourth-rounder. ... "One thing you hear from GMs is that it's not fair to compare him to Cam Newton -- except in size and athleticism -- because Cam Newton is a much stronger thrower in terms of his ability to drive the football."

IF ANY TEAM gives up a 1st rd pick next year for this kid this year, they should be moved to London immediately as punishment.

.No way in hell he goes anywhere near the first round. I wouldnt be at all upset if the cards nabbed him as early as the 4th even. I think he has solid potential to develop into an nfl QB, especially if cam newton has enough to warrant a #1 pick. No risk, high reward in my opinion. If he totally bombs it under center after a year, mold him into a solid TE instead.

I think someone would give up a four for him. It all goes into an envelope and whoever has the best "bid" gets him. I think a 4 is too high, but someone might do it. Look at teams that have multiple picks in rounds and that could give us a better clue...

I think someone gives up a 5, i'd be mildly surprised if someone gave up more then that

i think drew sets up a workout for pryor and pryor aces it....i think 3rd will be his ceiling, but cant see him going later than the 4th....the reward outweighs the risk by a large margin at that point

  12. I previously said that Pryor would go between rounds 3-5 in the summer draft.

Right now.....I say he's a fourth rounder at best.
