If the Washington Redskins elect to trade Donovan McNabb – and they haven’t stated what they’re going to do with their big addition from a year ago – he’s not going to bring a whole lot in return. Jason Reid of the Washington Post speculates that McNabb’s value is so low it would be “surprising if any team offered more than a sixth- or conditional seventh-round pick for him.†That’s a huge drop from the second- and fourth-round picks the Redskins paid the Philadelphia Eagles for McNabb a year ago, at that price, surely McNabb will find a taker entering his 13th NFL season. But as Reid points out, Mike Shanahan and his son Kyle, the team’s offensive coordinator, did “so much to devalue McNabb.†It’s put the Redskins in a tricky position. McNabb has been a respected player in the league for a long time, players like that are generally helped out – when possible – so it will be interesting to see how the club handles the situation. They could probably get better picks if they hadn't signed him to that ridiculous contract right before they benched him. I dont think anyone in their right mind would give up much for an aging, expensive gamble.
Wouldn't be surprised at all to see the Redskins hold on to him if they don't get anything for him...
McNabb's ridiculous contract is what de-values him. What team is going to want to pay him like a top QB after that stink-fest last year? If he was being paid something more reasonable, I would imagine that his draft pick value would still be in the mid-level area simply because there has to be at least one team who is desperate enough to believe that he's still got another 2004 season in him and would be willing to ignore all of the game tape from the last several seasons that clearly show otherwise.
Stink fest? If he started the last 3 games he would have put up 4,000 yards, more yards than he ever did in Philly, who I might add has a 'pass happy' offense. I think McNabb did a damn good job for his first year in a new offense, something he's never dealt with before.
mcnabb had a weird year in washington last year. he was definitely on pace to go over 4k in passing yards but he also had a horrible td/int ratio and although that online was freaking putrid he was part of the reason for it as he held onto the ball too long (no surprise there) and made bad decisions. bottom line is though that people are spot on when stating his contract is why the skins wont get a damn thing for him. that contract also shows beyond a shadow of a doubt that the blundering from the front office continued under new personnel.
