According to Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, the best player in baseball doesn't play in the Bronx, Boston, Philadelphia, Toronto or St. Louis. He plays in Queens."They have the world's greatest player playing shortstop over there, and the most exciting," Rodriguez said, referring to electrifying Mets leadoff hitter Jose Reyes. "I turn on the TV every time I get a chance to watch him."

I think Jose Reyes is a real great player at his position but I wouldn't consider him one of the greatest. I would consider Derek Jeter as one of the best. IM not just saying that as a yankee fan. I mean I would love to have Reyes on the yankees he's great. But not one of the greatest imo. I think Jeter is one of the best at that position

Jeter is old and sucks now. Reyes is currently better.

Career wise not yet, but MAYBE by the end of his career, but currently I think anybody wants Reyes on their team.

...Lol @ Derek Jeter being better. Derek Jeter's fielding keeps him from being "great" IMO. It's been obviously a topic of discussion lately, and didn't the Yankees just go 14-4 without him in the lineup? Jeter is good, don't get me wrong. But he's not great, either.

Jeter is worn out. Reyes is waaaay better. But when both their careers are over Jeter will be considered way better.

Maybe so. But as of RIGHT NOW, Jeter is not better in an all-around sense. At the end of the career of both, he may have been the better player.

Yea right now Jeter's not even close to Reyes. But that's to be expected. Reyes is in his prime. Jeter is in his twilight years.

Meaning, A-Rod's statement while maybe strongly opinionated, still stands true in Reyes is better than his own SS. The greatest player in MLB? I doubt that, but still. :]

If he keeps getting injured, he may need that.
