NFL Owners, Players Hit A Snag In Labor Talks

Less than a day after breathless media reports had a deal all but done, the two sides in the NFL's labor talks were wrangling unproductively over what the players see as “culture of the game issues†crucial to achieving a settlement while the NFL owners see merely as “workplace rules.†If something doesn’t give, it now seems whatever they call it won’t be the issue. The issue will be that the lockout won’t end, the league season won’t begin, and the owners won’t have anything to vote on at their next meeting, in Atlanta on July 21. According to several people familiar with the negotiations, the owners thus far “are not moving on any changes.†The Players Association believes for the owners this has become a control issue, not a safety one.
