NFL Players Voting On Ratified CBA "Appears Likely" For Friday

Discussion in 'NFL General Discussion' started by BigBlueBruiser, Jul 21, 2011.

  1. NFL owners approved a proposed 10-year labor agreement with the NFL Players Association on Thursday, leaving the potential end to the league's lockout in the hands of the players. Owners voted 31-0 to accept the proposed collective bargaining agreement, with the Oakland Raiders abstaining, after a full day of meetings at an Atlanta-area hotel. NFLPA leaders told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen a vote among its 32 player representatives appears likely Friday after the group received the "finishing points" of the agreement NFL owners approved Thursday. The NFLPA did not receive those details until after a two-hour conference call with player reps came to a conclusion without a vote Thursday night. "All in all, despite the games that were played by the NFL, things look much more optimistic," a players' leadership source said. One of the sticking points for the NFLPA is that some players want an opt-out clause seven years into the 10-year deal.

  12. My feeling is that cooler heads will prevail and the players will agree after looking over the Owners' proposed CBA.

Too much money at stake for both sides.......free agency is around the corner.

    :word:....and good for them.

While none of us really know the ins-and-outs, it safe to say that it's close enough that the players are getting a lion's share of what they wanted in the first place. As such, the owners have now put the players union in a position that any holdups from here will be viewed as unadulterated greed by John Q. Ticketbuyer. Right or wrong, the public isn't going to tolerate perceived greed if it means one cent in lost revenues for their businesses or personal income.

Polishing the players' balls is exactly what the owners have done.

The players have to take their time looking at the 300 plus page document. Hell, it's a 10 year agreement, they need to look at what the verbiage of the thing is...all the way down to the letter. It could take a couple days to look at that and analyze it...

  15. The good news is some of the players softened their stance after Goodell's press conference about the terms of the new proposed CBA.

The bottom line is they want to get back onto the field and may have to ultimately approve the CBA they may not totally like....but something they can live with.

"something they can live with" for 10 years? I think they'll think a little more about it than just that.

The executive committee and Smith are going over it now...hopefully it goes quick...but they won't take it lightly.
