San Francisco 49ers unrestricted free-agent QB Alex Smith will likely be among the first free agents to be re-signed when the NFL lockout comes to an end. While not under contract, Smith acted as the team's starting quarterback and team leader during the offseason. He worked with other players and tried to install new head coach Jim Harbaugh's offensive system. Smith and Harbaugh are expected to meet shortly after the lockout comes to an end to discuss the offseason player-led practices. "I'm sure that will take place. I'm sure we'll talk about how things went and how I felt about things - what I installed," Smith said. Source: Sacramento Bee
Most on the main 49er board are like, "enough of Alex already!!" Too many SECOND chances and one too many letdowns for his part. Have to wait and see though.
He did finish the last part of the year at about 65% completion rate over the last 6 games with 8 tds and only 1 pick and if you count the game before that he was 11 tds to 3 ints. Also he had the best Red zone QB rating or maybe it was 2nd it was one of those 2 though. Also Throwing to anyone not named Micheal crabtree he completed 65% of his passes and had a 95 passer rating. Throwing to crabtree i think it was less then 50% and a 40 passer rating. After the change to Micheal Johnson for OC is when he went 12-5 td int ratio. also has back to back years of more tds then INTs. The niners problems were inept coaches like dingleberry and thinking hey lets pound the rock up the middle back to back and set up 3 and long for our qb who gets about 2 seconds to throw the ball. The playcalling at times was so bad I could tell you what they were going to run. In fact there was talk that the Tampa Bay Bucs were calling the plays out at the line of scrimmage and were 90% of the time right
