To no one's surprise, the San Francisco 49ers reached a one-year agreement with quarterback Alex Smith, a source told ESPN.com senior NFL writer John Clayton. Smith will receive a one-year deal worth around $5 million, the source said. San Francisco picked Colin Kaepernick in the second round out of Nevada in April's draft, but Smith had been expected to return as the 49ers' starting quarterback. Despite being a free agent, the 27-year-old Smith organized the 49ers' player workouts during the lockout. The top pick in 2005 said he made the decision to return to the 49ers after speaking with new coach Jim Harbaugh and, in part, because he wants to prove he wasn't a Bay Area bust. Source: ESPN
Well given the situation i see where theyre coming from. Theyre bringing in a veteran qb whos been here and is dedicated. He ran the entire offensive offseason workouts and taught the rest of the team. Hes been a wco qb before. They still might grab another veteran, but bringing smith in was a sure thing. Even ill admit alex smith makes me roll my eyes more then id like to. Hes an outstanding guy, hes tough, hes smart, but damnit hes makes some bad throws.
This would have been a better option for less money. This dude already raped us for 50 plus million and hasn't produced crap!!! They should have let his butt go, brought in a vet or two! Favre, Favre!!!:icon_cheesygrin:
