Cowboys, Buccaneers In A "Dogfight" For Free Agent OT Doug Free

  1. Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports the Cowboys and Buccaneers are in a "dogfight" for free agent offensive tackle Doug Free. "Could get really expensive," adds Cole. Tampa Bay have as much cap room as any team in the league, and Free fits their profile of investing in talented young players. The Cowboys have been clearing out salary cap space all day, and won't go down without a vigorous fight.

  2. If Dallas loses Free.....Tyron Smith may be forced to play left tackle from out the gate.

That would mean real big trouble.

    I would be soooooo pissed

Free + Smith = the strength of of future team

If you let Free go, you gained no ground fixing the OL and you lose some in the short term

Smith can handle LT but that would be a blow.

Even if he could, the right would be a huge question. Free had the left Side on lock last year, but the right was a turnstile. A team that pass's alomst 65% of the time needs to pass blocking OT's

  10. Smith never played left tackle at USC.

If he had to play on the left as a rookie.....may have spelled disaster. Especially with the great pass rushers in the NFC East.

With Free returning....the Cowboys plan is still intact by easing Smith to the left side in a year or so.
