The 49ers reportedly have free agent center Olin Kreutz on the "radar" after losing out on David Baas to the Giants. Kreutz's preference is to remain in Chicago, but this an opportunity for his agent to wrangle a few more dollars out of Bears ownership. The Niners are desperate at center. If Kreutz leaves Chicago, thank you for the service you gave the Chicago Bears. If he stays, welcome back. Kreutz is nearing the end of his career anyway (i'd say maybe 2 more years at most), so who knows.
I'm just wondering wtf are the Bears doing?? Daniel Manning might go elsewhere and now Kreutz!! They better have something else that they're working on that we don't know about....
I just doubt Olin is going to leave chi for sf. They actually have several players that are either centers or can play center but they are either unproven rookies (like Beeler) or back ups like Wragge (who actually played well when Heitmann went down a couple of years ago) or theyre moving another player to center like snyder. Its not that they dont have a center, its that they lost Baas who played very well last year.
So you've got an undrafted rookie, a third string C (or else Im assuming he would have played over Baas last year when you lost Heitmann), and a dude who plays another position entirely. If that was my situation I'd be beating down every possible door trying to find a legitimate option.
